Equine Veterinary Interns The internship program at Woodside Equine Clinic will provide a comprehensive learning curve in all aspects of an advanced and progressive equine clinic. The high volume caseload will enhance the individual’s clinical competency, diagnostic skills, and communication skills. Guidance will be provided by 8 experienced clinicians/veterinarians in the fields of lameness, surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, reproduction, acupuncture and chiropractic, as well as advanced dentistry. This internship experience will provide a foundation for advancement in private practice or an academic residency. Intern duties include rotation with each veterinarian. Responsibilities include supervision and daily care of in-house cases, general anesthesia for surgical procedures, primary and follow-up care of routine cases, emergency calls, assisting with calls, and solo ambulatory calls. This internship is directed toward an individual who has the desire to advance in all aspects of equine medicine and the vigor to perform intern duties with a positive attitude. The high volume caseload will enhance the individuals clinical competency, diagnostic skills and communication skills. Information will be provided by 8 experienced clinicians/veterinarians in the fields of lameness, surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, reproduction, acupuncture and chiropractic, as well as advanced dentistry. The practice will ensure that the student has the opportunity to spend equal time with each clinician and participate in all activities. The primary goal is to give the student an in-depth exposure to the type of experience available as an intern. Externs are required to assist the current interns with treatment of hospital cases; assist clinicians in diagnostic and therapeutic care of hospital cases and out-patients; as well as assist clinicicans on ambulatory calls. This will include emergency cases. Student must provide own insurance or AVMA PLIT insurance with proof of payment of annual fee. Housing is not available on site, but we will provide you with a list of area housing available for a minimal fee in your application packet. Student will also be expected to provide their own transportation to and from the clinic.
